Good Evening Warwick Lacrosse!

We hope you are all settling in nicely to uni life and starting to realise what Lacrosse is all about!

We’ve had lots going on this week and even more coming in the next few weeks so keep your eyes peeled for more information on the facebook groups and we will cover most in this email too so try and read until the end!

Let’s start with match reports as we had all our teams in action on Wednesday, fighting strong until the end:

Women’s 1s:

Warwick Women’s 1s showed Cambridge 2s what they were made of with a fair fight in Cambridge last week. Although we lost 8-10, the girls played an hour of intense and smart lacrosse in torrential rain, without any subs putting the team in good stead for the coming games. Against such a strong opposition, this was honestly a fantastic result and we are super excited for the rest of the season. – Meg

Men’s 1s:

This week the men's 1st travelled away to face poly rivals Cambridge. Despite the awful weather the team came out of the blocks looking a completely different team to last week and took an early lead in the first quarter. The team fought hard in defense against an experienced side until finally Cambridge broke through and took the lead late in the third quarter. Special mention to man of the match Nic in goal for making several top saves including throwing his stick away and saving a shot with a diving header!!

Women’s 2nds:

This week women’s 2 went to Loughborough to play their second team. We started positively gaining a lot of early possession, winning the 2nd quarter with a goal from Ciara and Loren. They proved too strong in the 2nd half and scored a flurry of unfortunate goals. The final score truly did not reflect the passion and effort the Warwick 2nds put in, finishing 18-2. We will get up and move forward now as we look forward to next weeks match. Big special mention to our MVP Hetty Melrose who played outstandingly as goalie - Alannah

Men’s 2nds:

Featuring another strong fresher turnout, the 2s produced a hard fought display against Staffordshire University 1s, ultimately losing 14-5. Despite taking some time to settle into the game, we were able to set up around goal and challenge their more experienced defence. Ross Green’s stellar performance allowed him to add 4 goals to his already impressive tally, whilst also achieving his first Man of the Match award. As this was our first away game of the season, we saw a return of fresh factor, allowing the whole squad to experience beautiful renditions of some absolute classics. - Louie

This week’s matches:

This week we have a mix of home and away matches and for all of us at home, we would really appreciate your support on the sidelines!

Mens 1s vs Nottingham 1s – 2pm Cryfield (HOME)

Women’s 1s vs Oxford 2s – 2pm Cryfield (HOME)

Men’s 2s vs Oxford Brookes 2s – 2pm Cryfield (HOME)

Womens 2s vs De Montfort 1s– AWAY.

We also have a Womens SWWLA match this weekend so good luck to all the players in their first outing as a team.

We also have a few development tournaments coming up for players with less than 12months experience so please get in touch with Anne or Abdi if youd like to be involved in these.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE THIS WEEK, SMASH IT!

Moving on to Socials…

This week we had an extremely successful Tight and Bright Circle with many offering us an array of wonderful colours whilst others made less effort… As Neve and Jack reminded us this week, LOEs will not be tolerated.

This week we have a change of scenery and are heading to the great outdoors for our first campus bar crawl of the year. FARMERS AND ANIMALS is the theme so we are expecting to see you let out your inner animal as Jack and Neve herd us all through the farmland known as campus. Make sure you like the post on facebook so that Jack and Neve can sort you into families in which you will stay for the night…

Equally look out for posts coming up about the ever impending ADOPTIONS which will be happening in Week 5. More information to be coming soon.

Just another quick reminder about memberships, you will not be allowed to practices without membership from now on (Warwick Sport rules, not ours). Links are still all on fb but message us if you are struggling.

Think that’s all for today everyone, we hope you’ve had a wonderful week and are looking forward to even more exciting surprises this week. We will leave you with this wise quote from a sporting legend:

“Stop waiting for things to happen, go out and make them happen” – Usain Bolt

Lots of Lax Love,

Standen and John x
