Club Email! Term 1, week 1.

Good evening Warwick Lacrosse,

We just thought we’d start our email with a quick recap of the week and wow what a week it was.

Once again Warwick Lacrosse has outdone itself with yet another outstanding year of recruitment. Both room rounds and sports fair were a resounding success with over 300 sign ups and over 150 of you making it to the first taster session. This week’s Circle in Kelseys………..just WOW! We were totally blown away by how many of you turned up and it was amazing getting to meet so many of you beautiful freshers. We are all excited to get to know you all better over the coming weeks!! Once again a massive thank you to all the members who came down and helped throughout the week, we couldn’t have done it without you!!

We also had our first fixtures of the season with a Men’s friendly match against De Montford with them smashing the poly 8-3. Men's 1st team captain and self proclaimed 'Gods gift to lacrosse' Tom Salmon only had "WIN THE LEAGUE" to say in his post match interview. Once again congrats to them in their first outing together as a team. Bring on the rest of the season!

In similar fashion, the Women’s 2s had a friendly today against Derby, once again coming out victorious 10-4. Massive congrats to the whole team on their first match with special mention to Rachel Bucklow who played in her first ever match and “was sick” (To quote Alannah).

Moving on to this week and we start with…

BUCS fixtures

This Wednesday marks the start of the BUCS season with all 4 Warwick teams playing at home. The Men’s 1st, Women’s 1st and Women’s 2nd all playing at home to rivals Birmingham whilst the Men’s 2nd will be partaking in our favourite pastime of poly bashing against our disgruntled neighbours Coventry. If you are new to the sport it is the perfect opportunity to come down and see the game played at a competitive level! So freshers come on down to Cryfield pitches at 2pm, bring your friends, flatmates, coursemates, imaginary friends, whoever!! Just come down and help cheer on all your teammates that you’re going to be getting to know throughout the year!

Also to all members playing in those games you need to make sure you have purchased your full club memberships before team selections are made or you will not be allowed to play.

Circle

This weeks circle takes us away from the delights of Kelseys and back to our home in chill out room in the SU. If last weeks Circle is anything to go by, its going to be a mad one!! Freshers get buying tickets off anyone and everyone, get posting on facebook groups asking for spare tickets, you don’t want to miss out!!

This weeks theme is……..TOGA! TOGA! TOGA!

Get yourselves down to the haberdashery or whip out your fresher bedding and get making your glamorous togas now! It will be interesting to see who went full toga at 12pm in POP when Baywatch comes on, Charlie Mann will be in the gym 6 hours a day to be ready to impress at midnight!!

RECAP OF TRAINING TIMES/DEV TASTER SESSIONS

If you’ve missed out on our first few taster sessions then don’t despair!! Get yourselves up to the Westwood Astros on Thursday at 5:45-7:15 for more men’s and women’s taster sessions and on Tuesday at Tarkett (also Westwood) at 5:30 - 7pm for this years first mixed taster session.

For those of you who don’t know mixed lacrosse is a fun and inclusive version of the game combining the best aspects from both the Mens and Womens game! It’s a great way to meet all the members of our club and Ben Hurd the resident chill sec/mixed captain is excited to see you all down at Tarkett on Tuesday for some fun!

And finally just a reminder to BUY YOUR MEMBERSHIPS NOW! Links have been posted on the Facebook Pages but I know its been a long week so ill give you them here too:

Warwick Sport Membership: https://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/sport/join/student#memberships

Federation Fee & Lacrosse Membership: https://www.warwicksu.com/sports/clubs/lacrosse/

You will not be able to play any matches throughout the year without this membership and from now on you wont receive any emails or information about the club without membership. Please just buy it so we don’t have to hassle you anymore!

And so to conclude this rather lengthy email, (Sorry, there’s always lots of info at the start of term), we thought we would end with a little quote of the day, this ones specifically for all our BUCS teams starting their campaigns this week:

“Losers quit when they’re tired, Winners quit when they’ve won”

– Laura Merrifield, Senior England Women’s Lacrosse Captain.

Lots of lax love!!

Standen & John x
